Did you know that there are now THREE charter school options on Oahu that allow for education to be done at home? Hawaii Technology Academy (a.k.a. HTA), Myron B. Thompson Academy (a.k.a. MBTA), and now "Kanu o ka 'Aina" charter school via Harmony Educational Services (often just referred to as Harmony).
NOTE: For the newest charter school with Harmony: << *** enrollment is only open through Sept. 30th *** >> So you only have a few more days left to sign up if you are interested! For more info, go to their website: https://harmonyed.com/hawaii/ Students enrolled in these programs are NOT technically considered homeschoolers because they are public [charter] school students. Some of them require in person lessons with a teacher on occasion, but the majority of education is usually done at home. With HTA, a curriculum is provided (K12) and I think that required classes might be once a week (but I'm not sure - anyone know?). With MBTA, you're provided a $1500 allotment for approved curriculum and activities and two classes at their campus are required each month. With Harmony & Kanu o ka 'Aina, I'm told that Flex program participants can receive up to $800 in funds that can be used for curriculum and activities/supplies, and their face-to-face classes are apparently optional (none required) and offered one day a week. I believe (I have not confirmed) that all three schools require 3rd grade students and higher (at least) to take the yearly state standardized test. NOTE: I am NOT currently affiliated with Harmony Educational Services (this might change in the future, but I'm not sure yet), nor is this a sponsored post or advertisement. I receive no remuneration for posting about them here, but rather simply want to share the information in case someone is interested, before the deadline occurs. Please direct questions to Harmony. Thanks!

Lil Sis (age 6) has been reading for awhile now, but she's still learning. With a newborn in our home, I was interested in a computer based method to help my middle child learn and get extra practice while I'm tending to Baby Sis (or Big Sis or household matters or, or, or...). Spencer Learning's Ultimate Phonics Reading Program seemed like a good option, so we've been using it regularly for the last month and I'm happy to be able to share about our thoughts and experience with you.
