There are two different local scouting groups that are looking to get started or recruit members in the coming weeks (both a secular and a faith-based group)! I am not currently affiliated with or a member of these groups. This is not a review, recommendation, or endorsement, but I have heard good things about both groups from homeschool families in the local area. If you have personal experience that you think others might benefit from hearing about, please feel free to leave a comment below!
Two Local Scouting Groups
1. Navigators USA is a co-ed, secular scouting organization. It is "committed to providing a quality scouting experience that is inclusive and available to all children and families regardless of gender, race, religion, economic status, sexual orientation and social background."
Navigators Chapter 106 Informational Meeting
Have you ever wanted to have your child participate in the fun and community of a scouting program, but felt that the ones you knew of were not the best fit? Come check out Navigators USA! This scouting program is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist church and embodies principles of cooperation, service, and community. The program is open to all interested youth, both boys and girls. The meeting will address Chapter meetings, levels and badges, activities, dues, parental involvement, and age limits. This meeting will take place August 16th at 12:30 at the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu. Please RSVP to Chapter106@navigatorsusa.org
2. American Heritage Girls "is the premier national character development organization for girls ages 5-18 that embraces Christian values and encourages family involvement." Someone asked me to post this description of a local AHG troop "Looking to get your daughter into some positive scouting? The American Heritage Girls troop HI 0050 in Mililani is looking to start building their membership for the 2015-16 scouting year. They would love for you and your daughter to join their troop. Any girl age 5-18 can be an American Heritage Girl. With the help of parent volunteers, AHG is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country! Please contact their troop to get in on the fun and fellowship on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 3pm! Email them at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Disclaimer: Please remember to [always] do your due diligence and own research prior to getting involved with any of the organizations or opportunities listed in this blog or website. My goal is to share information and make resources available to homeschool families in Oahu. However, sometimes that means that I'm simply passing along information that has been shared with me and I have NOT necessarily verified, vetted, or validated the details, so your involvement, participation, or interaction with any of it is done completely and entirely at your own risk. I am NOT affiliated with the above organizations/groups and this post should not be construed as a review, recommendation, or advertisement, or endorsement in any way.
I'm a homeschooling mom of three, enjoying our time in Hawaii and hoping to share some of that experience with you, including ideas, reviews, resources, and information.
