Hawaii Homeschool Support & Interest Groups - Oahu
On this page, I've listed many of the homeschool support and interest groups on Oahu (in Hawaii).
There are others, but some groups prefer to remain "off the grid" or are not accepting new members so they will remain unlisted at this time. If you know of another homeschool group or are establishing a new one that you'd like listed here, please let me know!

You might also want to check out the listings on my Classes, Clubs, and Co-ops page for more options!
- Christian Homeschoolers - Oahu & Beyond - Their Facebook About info states: "Our purpose is to encourage discussion & fellowship among Christ-centered families on Oahu and all the islands of Hawaii."
- Christian Homeschoolers of Hawaii (CHOH) - A well established faith-based support organization that hosts an annual conference and an annual used book/curriculum sale. They have resources for new homeschoolers on their website. They also offer members connections to some other local homeschool support groups, a newsletter, and a discount with the Homeschool Legal Defense Agency (HSLDA). From their page: "The purpose of Christian Homeschoolers of Hawaii (CHOH) is to share information regarding homeschooling from a Christ-centered perspective and provide support for homeschooling families."
- Hickam Homeschoolers (JBPHH) - an active, Facebook-based support group. Their about page info states: "Hickam Homeschoolers is a homeschooling community for current and active homeschoolers with access to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). The primary focus of the group is connecting with other homeschooling families through events and gatherings." There is also a homeschool co-op on Joint-Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as well. NOTE: This group is not open to those who are not yet homeschooling, interested in it, etc.
- Home Educated Keiki (HEK) - a Facebook group "for Ohana with home educated keiki in the Ewa Beach and Kapolei areas". This group's organizer seems to be associated with multiple other resources, such as co-ops, classes, PE days, and more. It is a commonly recommended group among Facebook group post chatter. There is also an associated Home Educated Keiki Co-op that may require membership in the original HEK group first.
- Home Educated Teens and Tweens Living on Oahu - An offshoot of the Home Educated Keiki group (listed above) with a focus on events for kids ages 12-18 that are already homeschooling on Oahu. (This group is not for those interested in or considering homeschooling.)
- Homeschoolers of Older Children, Oahu (HOCO) - A Facebook-based homeschool support group "created for those on Oahu who are homeschooling children ages 9 and up".
- Homeschooling in Hawaii - Sales, Resources, Buy and Sell - This is a PUBLIC Facebook group. The name is pretty self-explanatory; the purpose seems to be to share homeschool related resources and buy/sell homeschool related materials. (Note: It appears to be associated with the Home Educated Keiki groups and Explorations Ed-Venture program through the same primary admin/organizer.)
- Military Homeschoolers of Oahu - From their Facebook About info: "The mission of MHO is to provide a community for military connected families (Active/Retired/DOD) who are currently home-educating their school-aged children (K-12) on the island of Oahu. We build that community by offering a central place to communicate and organize group activities and field trips." The group does require active participation and parental involvement. They emphasize that they are only "for current homeschoolers on the island of Oahu, Hawaii." (Therefore this group is not open to those who have not yet begun homeschooling, are interested in it, etc.)
- Oahu Homeschool Classifieds - A Facebook group for the local buying, selling, and trading of homeschool related materials. Can sometimes be difficult/delayed to get membership approved (since there is only one admin).
- Oahu Homeschool Communities, Resources, and Services - The group's Facebook About page states: "Oahu Homeschool Communities, Resources, and Services is academic and enrichment focused group for homeschoolers. The purpose of this group is to provide a place for homeschoolers to connect with coops, communities, and service providers to enrich their homeschool."
- Oahu Homeschool Hiking Club - Described on the group's Facebook page as: "A group where homeschoolers can meet others, hike together, and just explore the outdoors."
- Oahu Inclusive Co-op - This is a new homeschool group that is working to establish itself and gauge interest. It is described on their Facebook group page as "an inclusive, diverse, secular, eclectic/ unschooly, pro LGBQT, BLM, women’s rights etc group."
- Schofield Homeschool Community (Wahiawa / Central Oahu) - "A place of connection for homeschoolers on or near Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii, and those willing to travel to or near Schofield." Places near Schofield include Waialua, Helemano Military Reservation (HMR), Wheeler Army Air Field, Naval Area Telecommunications Area Master Station (NCTAMS), Wahiawa, and Mililani. "Military base access is not required, but this group is military-centric and activities, co-ops, resources, etc. are likely to be primarily on base and military-connected."
- Schofield & Wheeler Homeschool Ohana - The group's Facebook page states: "Our purpose is to support families in their homeschool endeavor by creating strong bonds. Our hope is to provide a rich homeschool experience through community, educational resources, events, and activities."
- Wild and Free Homeschoolers of Oahu - The group's Facebook About page describes the group as: "Get together, make friends with other wildschooling moms and kids and connect to nature. All ages welcome but mainly for school age kids pre-k 4 and up." It is also mentioned that the group is for conventional homeschool families (registered as homeschoolers with their local school) and not those that participate in charter, virtual school, or "school at home" programs.
GROUPS THAT MAY BE INACTIVE / LIMITED RESOURCES
These are homeschool groups that are appear to be only occasionally active, do not usually approve new members, or are largely outdated. I have them listed here because it is possible to still find them on Facebook or their websites, but it can be helpful to know that they are not regularly or reliably active.
- Amazing Homeschool Hiking Club - * MAY BE INACTIVE. In March 2022, the most recent posts in the group seem to be from Nov/Dec. 2021. I'm not sure if this group is still active.* A Facebook group for Homeschooling families who would be interested in meeting other families and doing hikes all around Oahu. Neither explicitly secular or faith-based. Only occasional (not regularly scheduled or routine) and sometimes short-notice hikes are listed at this time, but any member seems to be allowed to host a hike.
- Hawaii Easy Peasy Homeschool Chatter - MAY BE INACTIVE. A Facebook-based support group for families using Easy Peasy homeschool curriculum.
- Hawaii Homeschool Association - LIMITED RESOURCE / OUTDATED. Described as "an inclusive support group of homeschooling families for Oahu", this organization did have a lot of information and resource links to offer, but much of what is listed on their website is outdated, perhaps by a few years now. Still, it is listed here because there may be something useful on the website and/or the organization might become active once again.
- Hawaii Homeschooling for College Credit - LIMITED RESOURCE. A state page that "is a subcategory of the primary Facebook page and book Homeschooling for College Credit by Jennifer Cook DeRosa". This appears to be more of an informational page rather than a support group, with fairly limited resources & information available.
- Hawaii Homeschool Community for Pre-K and Kinder - LARGELY INACTIVE, but there have been a few recent posts with limited responses. It is described as a Facebook group derived from the primary Hawaii Homeschool Community group (another group that is now inactive). Intended as a forum and support group for families with children age birth to 7 who "purposefully plan activities for them that promote cognitive growth, social well being and overall independence".
- Hawaii Homeschool Network - MAY BE INACTIVE / LIMITED RESOURCE. As of March 2022, the last post was from July 2021. Facebook description: "We are a group of homeschooling families in Hawaii who support each other in our homeschooling efforts."
- Home Educators Residing on Oahu (HERO) - MAY BE INACTIVE. One of the few expressly and primarily secular groups on island, this Facebook group was established with atheist and agnostic homeschool educators in mind. Offers activities, events, and like-minded conversation and support.
- Marine Corps Base Hawaii Homeschool - MAY BE INACTIVE, the admin moved off island a few years ago and no new members have been added to the group recently. A Facebook group for those living on or near MCBH.
- Military Christian Homeschoolers Oahu (MCHO) - MAY BE INACTIVE or CLOSED. Faith-based group for homeschooling families with military base access. Their website previously described the group's mission as: "to provide support for Christian military home educating families on Oahu through disseminating information of interest and providing avenues for fellowship, encouragement, and member initiated activities.
- North Shore Oahu Homeschool 'Ohana - LARGELY INACTIVE; most posts are advertisements/promotions.
- Schofield Barracks/Wheeler Homeschooler Support- MAY BE INACTIVE. A relatively smaller Facebook-based homeschool support group for military homeschooling families on and near Schofield Barracks.
- Waianae Homeschool Ohana - MAY BE INACTIVE. According to their Facebook group description, they are: "A network of homeschool families on the Waianae Coast".
- Windward Oahu Homeschool Hui - MAY BE INACTIVE; no recent posts or new members at the time of this listing. Described on Facebook as: "Windward Oahu Homeschool Hui is a place for local homeschoolers to share ideas, plan field trips and other place-based learning opportunities, and work together as a Windward Oahu community of learners."
CLOSED & INACTIVE GROUPS
These are homeschool groups that are no longer active or have closed since they were originally listed. I have them listed here because it is possible to still find them on Facebook, websites, or referred by others... but it can be helpful to know that they are not active or current.
